LARRY ELWOOD
STYLES:
Funk, Rock, R-n-B, Jazz
I have been playing the bass for over 24 years and began teaching in Sacramento, Ca in 1990. I have studied music theory at the college and university level and privately with a few very fine bassists including:
Eric Heilman (incredible fretless player from Sacramento) and Paul Erhard (very emotional upright player and the head of the bass department at University of Colorado). Another bass player I have studied with and owe much to is the gracious and multi-talented Arnie J. Green. What I have learned from all of the masters, I use every time I pick up the bass.
METHOD:
Developing
your individual tone, various finger and thumb techniques, reading, mastering
the bass neck, groove, and most important - listening.
INFLUENCES:
Marcus Miller, Verdine White (EWF), Tommy Simms(Charlie Peacock/Bruce Springsteen),
Rocco Prestia (TOP), Jaco, Paul McCartney, Arnie J. Green, James Jamerson, Tony
Levin, Pino Paladino and many, many others..
Playing the bass is an amazing form of art. My desire is to help others to learn,
grow and reach their goals!
